This week TTT is kind of a freebie because you get to go back and pick any topic that you like. I decided to go with the top ten books I'll never read.
Most of them are very popular in the book blogging community. Some of them, I said I would read eventually. But the truth is, they simply don't sound that amazing to me, and why bother reading books because they're popular if I could be reading something that really interests me? There are too many books that I want to read to waste time reading books others want me to read.
Here are the top ten books I'll probably never read.
The Wrath and the Dawn, by Renée Ahdieh
I am positive this books is gold; everyone keeps telling me it is! I'm simply not that into retellings.
The Girl from Everywhere, by Heidi Heilig
Again, another book that received a lot of praise! Sadly, I'm not drawn to it. (though the cover is gorgeous!)
The 5th Wave, by Rick Yancey
I read a lot of dystopian series back to back and I sorta did an overdose on them. Plus, with the movie out, I don't have the motivation to read this story since I could just watch it.
Cinder, by Marissa Meyer
Do you know how many times I picked up this book at the bookstore and put it back on the shelf? A fucking lot, that's how much! As much as I want to be in the fandom for Cinder, I'm not interested!
Everything Everything, by Nicola Yoon
The hype surrounding this book was unreal because I didn't get it. Before it came out, people couldn't wait to read it. Now that's it out, people have read it and loved it. Me? I don't feel like this book is special, I don't find it overly interesting...
Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell
I tried with Rainbow Rowell. I really did. But as I said in my review of Carry On, I came, I saw, I conquered, and I'm not coming back.
Illuminae, by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
The concept is real cool, I'll give it that. But it's not my type. This is an honest to god "it's not you, it's me" situation.
Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children
This book is suppose to be creepy, but it doesn't sound like it. In fact, the plot doesn't seem that exciting. And I know I'm the minority here because lots of people loved this book and they're making a movie about it. Well...
Truthwitch, by Susan Dennard
I used to love fantasy books. In fact, that's the ONLY thing I used to read. Now? I'm really picky about which fantasy book I'll pick up because the plot are often very similar. Plus, despite all the hype surrounding this book, it didn't get excellent reviews.

Although I really liked The 5th Wave (movie), I probably won't read the book either. Although I think I do have a paperback, so never say never, I suppose. :)

ReplyDeleteThat's what a lot of people have been saying.. And I find it a little bit funny because the hype that surrounded the book for months before it came out was INSANE! At the end of the day, you can promote a book all you want, but if the content isn't good enough... it's just not good enough.
DeleteAh, I don't think you're missing out on much by not reading Everything, Everything to be honest. I read it - it was alright for me? I just didn't connect to the characters.

I think you're the first person to tell me you didn't love Everything Everything; serisouly, everyone I talked to about it were head over heels in love with it!:O

I 100% agreed with you about Miss Peregrine's until I actually read it and it was 3am and I couldn't put it down, not just because I was intrigued but more to do with the fact I couldn't go to sleep because the pictures creeped me out so bad hahaha
ReplyDeleteI want to give it a try for the sake of the movie and everyone telling me how good it is, but I'm not drawn to it... And with the fact that I currently have 30+ books at home that I haven't read yet, I don't want to bother with a book that don't interest me.

DeleteThe 5th Wave never interested me... The world, the plot, the characters... nothing grabbed my attention. Some books are just not for us!
I saw agree with you in this one! I never read books that are super popular, I never end up liking them because my expectation for them for being popular are super high. Like Divergent. When I read it I was like " and people are making a big fuzz about this?" And If I do read it I do it when people stops talking about it.

DeleteSomeone said that they prefer reading new books because they can fangirl with other people when they finish reading them. Me? I have mix feelings about that. I want to be part of every new fandoms, but at the same time the fact that I'm not part of them annoys me because that's all I see. Everywhere.
DeleteWith Divergent, I read it when it wasn't too popular yet, in French on top of that, ad I really enjoyed it. But I totally get your point!
I don't think I would have bought Cinder for myself. I got it as a gift. And I loved it. IT sounds so wrong for me. Cyborg Cinderella set in futuristic China? I don't like robots or futuristic books and I wasn't into fairytale retellings when I read it. But it is one of my favourite books.
