When I First Saw You #26

July 14, 2016

When I First Saw You, WIFSY for short, is an original monthly feature here on Sailing Through Books that consists of writing a made-up synopsis for a book based on its cover cover and title only. Essentially judging a book by its cove, yes. More details here.

My made-up synopsis

Once you step out of the elevator, you might not be abble to come down... You may be stuck there forever...

Max used to read the Percy Jackson series when he was younger, and everytime he set foot in an elevator, he always pressed the button leading to the highest floor, in hopes that it would bring him to Mount Olympus.

Time has past and Max has stopped pushing the button with the highest number when he takes the elevator. That is, until he moves to his new apartment for college, where there is a mysterious elevator button with the number 1000 on it.

What Max discovers on the thousandth floor is far from the Mount Olympus he imagined when he was younger. It is a world darker, desperate for help.

And we all know how desperation can make us do crazy things...

The real deal

New York City as you’ve never seen it before. A thousand-story tower stretching into the sky. A glittering vision of the future, where anything is possible—if you want it enough.

Welcome to Manhattan, 2118.

A hundred years in the future, New York is a city of innovation and dreams. But people never change: everyone here wants something…and everyone has something to lose.

Leda Cole’s flawless exterior belies a secret addiction—to a drug she never should have tried and a boy she never should have touched.

Eris Dodd-Radson’s beautiful, carefree life falls to pieces when a heartbreaking betrayal tears her family apart.

Rylin Myers’s job on one of the highest floors sweeps her into a world—and a romance—she never imagined…but will her new life cost Rylin her old one?

Watt Bakradi is a tech genius with a secret: he knows everything about everyone. But when he’s hired to spy by an upper-floor girl, he finds himself caught up in a complicated web of lies.

And living above everyone else on the thousandth floor is Avery Fuller, the girl genetically designed to be perfect. The girl who seems to have it all—yet is tormented by the one thing she can never have.

Verdict:

I was SO off with this one! I got the genre wrong, the POV, basically everything wrong! And what can I say, my love for Percy Jackson was too strong to let this one past without making a reference to the books!

Though enough about that for now, let's talks about the real synopsis. The real, interesting and mouth-watering synopsis! I mean, have you read it? Aren't you, too, totally intrigued by it? I know I am!

The first lines immediately grabbed my attention. I love the multiple POV aspect; I think it has the potential of being really great if it's well done. Also, I'm simply in love with the world described in the story. I'm not usually one to like futuristic settings, but this one... This one I want to get into!

Next month's covers choices

Have a lovely weekend guys!
