When I First Saw You, WIFSY for short, is an original monthly feature here on Sailing Through Books that consists of writing a made-up synopsis for a book based on its cover and title only. Essentially judging a book by its cover, yes.

My made-up synopsis
For the past year, Candace has had these hellish nightmares about the countless ways the world could end. Nuclear war, famine, natural disasters, aliens... Name it, she's dreamt it.
Every night is a different scenario, but the beginning is always the same: her waking up to a bright, bubblegum pink sky.
One day, Candace is living the beginning of her nightmare as usual. Except this time it's not a dream, it's reality.
Candace knows how everything starts and everything ends, but what if she could change the ending? After all, she's seen hundreds of different ways everything could go wrong, maybe she can prevent it. Now, if only she knew which of the many endings she'd seen was happening ...
The real deal
Lenny (short for Eleanor) feels like the world is about to end. Her best friend is moving to New York City to attend Julliard and her dad has terminal cancer. To cope with her stress Lenny is making a list of all the ways the world can end—designer pathogens, blood moon prophecies, alien invasion—and stockpiling supplies in a bunker in the backyard. Then she starts to develop feelings for her dad's very nice young doctor—and she thinks he may have feelings for her too. Spoiler alert: he doesn't. But a more age-appropriate love interest might. In a time of complete uncertainty, one thing's for sure: Lenny's about to see how everything is ending and beginning. All at the same time.
Verdict
Well, I got the possible alien invasion part right!
Ok, more seriously, while the book is about a very real, very touching subject, I went in a complete different direction. I did have a load of fun coming up with a synopsis this month because the covers were all very enticing, especially this one, with an even more intriguing title, but I must tip my hat to the real synopsis that grabbed my attention the same way the cover and title did!
I must say, teenagers falling for older people, let it be teachers or in this case, doctors, always made me cringe. Surprisingly though, this book makes it work for me.
I'll be looking out for this one!
